The WV Knuckleheads Baseball organization was founded by Jay Cox and Mike Keiffer in 2014 and is one of the most recognized travel baseball programs in West Virginia.

Since the organization’s inception, it has grown into seven highly competitive age divisions that compete throughout the Southeastern US. The program’s foundation is built on teaching leadership and life lessons through the game of baseball to better prepare kids for not only the next level of baseball, but also the next steps in life.

In 2017, they decided to host their own baseball tournament with a focus on honoring veterans. They asked Advantage Business to come up with a wide variety of tournament promotions, prizes, and signage for the event.

Advantage Business first started with specially designed hats for the hosting team (Knuckleheads) for the tournament.

Commemorative t-shirts were designed and produced for resale during the tournament and served as an additional fund raiser. The design of the shirt married the elements of baseball and military service together that resulted in unique apparel that was a huge hit with all who attended.

Awards were designed to be quite different than the typical baseball trophies. Custom coins were designed and produced to honor the first place team. Second place was awarded custom dog tags with the tournament brand. This provided a great connection to the military theme.

Signage and tournament elements to be used during the event were also designed and produced by Advantage Business. Flyers were produced to be used as invitations to other teams leading up to the tournament. Banners displayed on site during the event to detail specifics of the tournament and build excitement during the tournament weekend. Even custom pitch count cards were created with tournament branding to keep track of the each pitchers’ statistics.

The tournament was a huge success with participating teams coming from as far as several states away. Not only was it a great event for the kids to host, but the proceeds from the tournament allowed the organization to invest in additional equipment and training for the players.

When a client approached us about a desire to launch a new gym during the Crossfit rage that was sweeping the country, we stepped in at the very beginning just as he was acquiring the building. Advantage Business consulted with him on the creation of the business name (Crossfit corporate had quite a few stipulations on the name choice). Once that was settled, we began designing his corporate identity.

The brand needed to be unique but clearly be connected to fitness. A bold color scheme was selected to make the name stand out on signage and apparel.

Advantage Business Handled It All
Advantage Business was contract to handle every necessity of launching the new Crossfit gym:

The client was able to build a successful Crossfit gym with steady membership with achievements in regional competitions. As the Crossfit era passed, the client was able to sell the business and move on to other ventures.

Advantage Business started on the ground floor with a new soap company, Appalachian Milk Soap. We had helped AMS build their corporate identity, website, print collateral, and even developed their marketing budget. However, when they decided to launch a new Kid’s Soap product line, things got interesting.

CHALLENGE
The new product line had to be attractive and engaging to the kids while still maintaining their reputation of an all-natural product. The new product line had to still point to the traditional, old fashion brand that AMS was trying to develop while still being kid friendly.

SOLUTION
What could be more old fashion yet remain kid friendly then farm animals? Advantage Business worked diligently with the customer to develop “flavors” that would be kids centric, remain all-natural, but also align with a specific farm animal’s characteristics. Alliteration was our friend with these new product name. Custom drawn graphics of the cow, pig, and rooster allowed each product to be unique but clearly identifiable as a set.

Retail packaging was created to match the packaging we had already develop for their main soap product line, but we made the entire box whimsical and child-like. All packaging was custom produced with a print/bindery company that specialized in retail packaging work. Advantage Business oversaw the testing and production of the packaging.

Whimsical but Corporate
AMS wanted all of their body products to be packaged in a manner that would not restrict them access to any retail opportunity. In order to do this, all of their products had to have UPC (Universal Product Codes). Advantage Business was instrumental in setting up an account with the Global Standards Organization, completing all the intensive paperwork, and managing the issuance of the UPCs on the proper products. It was very tedious work, but the client was able to place their product in ANY retail chain store that would have them. While they operated like a small family business, they looked like a professional corporation in the branding and packaging.

To help combat childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyle of elementary students, a local occupational therapist reached out to us to see if we could develop a system to encourage children to move more while they were at school. The idea of “prompts” in school hallways was a fairly new concept. After some research, we developed a graphic system that was not only colorful and playful, but could hold up over time and maximize the initial expense.

Over the course of the year, we installed various systems in 4 different elementary schools in Lincoln and Putnam Counties. Scott Teays Elementary included the most custom of options for the kids to enjoy.

MAIN CHALLENGE:
How do we get kids be as active as possible in a short period of time?

SOLUTION – The Wiggle Walkway included eight unique stations that encouraged the children to get active with processes that required upper body movement, hopping, stretching and squatting. Seven of the eight stations where permanently affixed to the floor and another was mounted to the wall. As children would move from class to class, they could engage with each station. The stations were laid out in a line so an entire classroom of kids could quickly move through the system without producing a long line.

Additional Challenge – How do we make the graphics durable

SOLUTION – The full color graphics were produced on the highest quality, outdoor vinyl by 3M. This vinyl was special ordered to handle the wear and tear of hundreds of little feet. The wall mounted station was printed reversed on acrylic (graphic on the backside) so the station could be sterilized before each use (Covid protocols). Each floor graphics was printed then sealed with an laminate coating to preserve to graphic even more. Testing was done to see how the graphics would react to the school maintenance annual waxing process to make sure the wax coating would not destroy the graphics. Since all 8 stations are independent of each other, one station could be replaced if it was severely damaged.

ADVANTAGE BUSINESS
Concept, Design, Production, and Installation

Not only did we develop the concept for this program, but we also design all the elements including incorporating the tiger mascot of the school into the design. We also oversaw the production and testing of the materials and managed the installation on site. We saw the entire project through to completion.

In 2007, a local jewelry store, Calvin Broyles Jewelers, was celebrating their 60th anniversary. The year-long celebration culminated in an invitation-only after hours event at the primary location of the business. We were tasked with building on a theme idea they had with James Bond and the Casino Royal that had come out the year before.

We invited their top customers to join us at Casino Broyal where their custom poker chip they received was their ticket for a night of intrigue, table games, fine dining, and incredible prizes. We helped the team convert the jewelry store into a high-stakes casino with a variety of table games. Instead of money changing hands, each customer was building their chips to “purchase” great prizes or risk everything on the roulette wheel.

The ambiance was set even higher as models were hired to wear beautiful evening gowns and to display almost $100,000 of fine jewelry as they mingled with the crowds. Jay and I even dressed in suits with sunglasses, ear pieces, and concealed side arms to build even more ambiance.

The event was greatly received by the customers and is still talked about today.
